INTRODUCTION
Eucalyptus is one of the main planting species in Vietnam. Many research areas such as soil, planting techniques, sowing etc. have been started and research on pests of eucalypts is also an imperative research field.
For eucalypts, the main pests are termites which cause damage or destroy trees at two stages: newly planted stage and 1-2 year old trees (the main stage ).
Termites can cause severe damage in eucalypts in Australia, China and India and in Vietnam, this was observed in many locations such as Mat Enterprise (Hoabinh), Binhlu (Laichau), Minhquang (Hatay), Quangninh, Yenbai, Laocai, Tuyenquang and Nghean.
RESEARCH CONTENT
A. Determination of distribution of termites and ecological characteristics as an indicator of termites
* Hill areas, soil mixed with stone pieces, warmth and moisture, vegetation containing Imperata cylindrica and Saccharum arundinaceum.
* Appearance of damaged plants:
– One year old plants: young leaves and tips seem to be withered and it is easy to pick stems up from the ground.
– Two year old plants: young leaves are withered, plants are weakly developed and leaves have many dried silver points.
– Mature trees: easy to recognize termites on stems.
