INTRODUCTION
In order to find soil mixtures to be used as a medium for raising P.merkusii seedlings for large-scale production, in the years 1972- 1975, the research subject concentrated on the determination of figures in components and best properties of soil media, on the selection of available materials and on the determination of mixture formulas meeting requirements relating to the medium which can easily be used in practice.
METHOD
Surveys were done in the field in combination with analysis in the laboratory to find the requirements relating to soil medium for raising pine seedlings and to decide the directions for experiments. Based on the knowledge obtained, many types of soil media were produced for experiments. At the same time, analysis was used to check the features of those soil media and the growth and quality of seedlings as a basis for evaluation of soil media.
