INTRODUCTION

Pinus kesiya, an endemic tree species in the Western Highland, exists naturally in pure or mixed stands with Pinus merkusii or broad-leaved tree species. Most are distributed in Lamdong and occupy an area of 105,472 ha. The “ Taynguyen II” program touched upon a comprehensive study on Pinus kesiya in order to get a scientific basis for their cultivation. Study on increment law of Pinus kesiya and its application in production is part of the theme” “ Research on Pinus kesiya” belonging to the “Taynguyen II” program with code number 04-01-0105. Establishment of site table for Pinus kesiya, a preliminary study on its increment law-is mentioned in this paper.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

1. Establishment of site table for Pinus kesiya.

When establishing a site table, it is necessary to know the objectives to be researched, i.e. proportion of homogeneous or heterogeneous stands should be known so that the appropriate method may be applied.

Natural stands of Pinus kesiya in Lamdong usually constit of many patches large or small with different heights and ages. In addition, age variation in each patch is smaller, less than an age class of 5. For establishing Pinus kesiya site table in Lamdong, principal strata with greatest heights and largest areas will be used to collect data. Moreover, establishment of site table is by the method for homogeneous forests.
