INTRODUCTION

Eucalyptus is one of the main planting species in Vietnam, not only for concentrated plantations, but also for scattered planting and planting in farms. Up to 1989, many results have been reported by our Institute and other organizations, however, since 1990, Eucalyptus planting and trials have faced new demands and problems such as fungus disease, productivity of plantations, requirements for export etc. This report will provide the latest results, give new orientations and heights in order to overcome the problems so that Eucalyptus will be planted in the correct area.

MATERIAL AND METHOD

From 1980 up to now, 137 provenances of 15 main Eucalyptus species have used in trials in Vietnam, however, it was noted that 50 Eucalyptus species were tried before 1970. Since 1984, more than 20 trials have been carried out over the whole country; most of these trials used randomized complete block design with 3-4 replications and 49 trees/plot, except for some trials having fewer trees per plot and some pilot plantations having one replication.

The data collected are H. D1.3 (or ground level diameter at a young age), survival, disease situation, flowing and fruit setting. A computer was used for analysis of variance.
