INTRODUCTION

In the research program ( 1981 – 1985), number 04-01 determined systems of silvicultural technical operations for production of wood timber in Songhieu . A system was determined in the research on forest reclamation by Chukrasia tabularis in Songhieu region. This is one of the technical themes with results. Experimental models were based on plot production. 60 ha of pilot production were established for 2 years ( 1985 – 1986).

Songhieu is a region for wood timber production and so the choice of tree species should satisfy the following requirements: fast growing, availability of seed and simple cultivation technique. From the above standards a set of target tree species were chosen mainly for Songhieu as follow: Erythrophloeum fordii, Talauma gioi, Chukrasia tabularis, Peltophorum tonkinensis, Parashorea sp., Aglaia gigantea, Cinamomum sp., Toona febrigura, Gmelia arborea, Evodia melifolia, Hopea mollissima, Ormosia balanceae and Calyfyllum dayafulanoides.

The cultivation technique of Chukrasia tabularis is presented in this paper.

1. Some ecological characteristics

Chukrasia tabularis grows naturally on ferralitic soil developed on rocks such as limestone and micaschist. The species prefers deep and humid soils. Its growth is quite rapid. Tracing rootage is developed and the primary one is superficial. The tracing root develops in direct proportion with the crown.

Demands of light. At a young age, Chukrasia tabularis likes thin shadow. Its light demands grow greater with increasing age. Light shaded by 30% is appropriate for the nursery age.

Chukrasia tabularis frequently grows together with Talauma gioi, Machilus odoratissima, Aglaia gigantea, Erythrophloeum fordii etc… Attention should be paid to this in forest maintenance to get an appropriate constitution of mixed forest.
