preliminary study on increment rules to serve as temporary basis for p.kesiya management at lamdong province (1977)

INTRODUCTION

P. kesiya is found naturally in Lamdong province and is an important forest product in this region, however, so far the species has been exploited without a scientific basis.

To serve as a basis for more reasonable forest management, a study on the increment rule of P.kesiya trees and stand was carried out. Ten temporary plots were placed with 4 sub-plots of younger age. Some trees were taken from plots for analysis by diameter levels. The locations are Dinh Trang Thuong, Klong Dum, Da Lat, Tam Rai, Lang Hanh, Suoi Vang.

RESEARCH CONTENT AND REMARKS

I. Increment rule for breast-height diameter, height and crown diameter

1. Trees have maximum yearly increment in diameter (id) and height (ih) in the early stage before age 10 years and generally at 6 or 7 years of age.

id = 20 – 30 mm, ih = 1.5 – 2,0 m

2. Based on mean yearly increment in diameter and height, four increment stages can be divided as follows,
