INTRODUCTION

Many damaging factors have a considerable in influence on the quality of Dendrocalamus forest, of which pest and disease are the most serious , especially worms which cause damage to young shoots. In some areas, 30-40% of young shoots have been destroyed so that the forest was degraded, depleted and lost. Therefore, study on the biological characteristics of this worm species is necessary and on that basis, suggestions and experiments can give effective control measures which contribute to the establishment of a complete technical system to increase yield and assist in the stable management of Dendrocalamus forest.

METHODS

Experiments were carried out for growing worms and at the same time, periodical surveys were done in permanent plots and in the forest, in order to determine their biological characteristics. Control measures were also applied in the forest.
