RESEARCH OBJECTIVES AND CONTENT:
Objectives:
– Technology completion for the manufacture of bamboo scrimber as construction and interior materials at an industrial scale.
– Establishment of a bamboo scrimber production model with a capacity of 1500 m3/year at BWG Joint Stock Company in Mai Chau, Hoa Binh.
– Application of the completed technology to manufacture 100m3 bamboo scrimber.
– Technology transfer for mass production.
Contents:
Content 1: Technology completion for making bamboo strips.
– Technology completion for making raw bamboo strips
– Technology completion for preservation of bamboo strips
– Technology completion of hydrothermal treatment and drying of bamboo strips.
– Technology completion of glue impregnation and drying of impregnated.
Content 2: Technology completion for the production of bamboo scrimber as construction and interior materials.
– Technology completion for cold pressing of bamboo scrimber
– Technology completion of the heating process for resin curing of bamboo scrimber after cold pressing
Content 3: Establishment of a bamboo scrimber production model with a capacity of 1500 m3/year

SUMMARY OF RESEARCH RESULTS

- Adoption of the technological for production of bamboo scrimber has been completed as follows:
– The pressing and rolling speed for making bamboo strips was 15 m/min and the optimal wall thickness of bamboo logs for making strips was 8-9 mm.
– Wood preservatives LN5 and XM5 at a concentration of 5% are very effective for bamboo strip preservation and protection against mould and colour stain.
– Bamboo strips were treated at 140oC and for 5h for use as scrimber and 3h for use as construction and interior materials.
– The treated bamboo strips were dried at 80oC and for 48h to achieve a moisture content of 8% – 10%.
– The bamboo strips were immersed in PF glue mixed with water at ratio of 1: 1,5 for immersion of 10 mins.
– Glue Impregnated bamboo strips were dried at 70oC for 6 h to achieve moisture content of 13% -15%.
– The pressure applied to make bamboo scrimber for construction was 70 MPa and for interior material 60 MPa.
– The temperature and duration for heat curing the resin curing for bamboo scrimber after cold pressing for both construction and interior materials is shown in the diagram below
2. One bamboo scrimber production model factory with a capacity of 1500 m3/year has been established and 100.5 m3 bamboo scrimber have been produced. A stilt house of 70 m2 has been designed and built. A set of table and chairs has also been designed and produced.- The costs and capabilities of machines for the bamboo scrimber production model with capacity of 1500 m3 have been evaluated and the best machines selected.
– 75 m3 bamboo scrimber as construction materials and 30.5 m3 bamboo scrimber as interior materials have been manufactured.
– A stilt house of 70 m2 has been designed and built at BWG Joint Stock Company in Mai Chau, Hoa Binh.
– A set of table and chairs has been produced
– The value of advanced bamboo scrimeber products for construction and interior materials has been recognized.
- 03 technicians and 50 workers have been trained on the procedure for manufacture of bamboo scrimber as construction and interior materials.
