The Research Centre for Forest Tree Improvement have successfully created and selected many planting varieties of Eucalyptus and Acacia having good growth, desired wood quality and disease resistance. These planting varieties have been approved by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as national and technologically advanced stocks.

The objective of this project was to demonstrate and evaluate performance of these varieties at pilot planting scale to develop to commercial plantations. The preliminary results have confirmed the good performance, good adaptability of selected natural Acacia hybrid clones.

The total volume of Acacia hybrid plantation at Ha Noi at age 17-20 months was 16-19 m3/ha. In Nghe An, the volume at age 12-13 months was 15-19 m3/ha and better than corresponding value of Acacia mangium selected from seed production areas.

Growth of Eucalyptus clones were not significantly different compared with commercial seedlots at age 1 years old and further assessment at later ages should be performed
