I. Introduction
Phyllostachys pubescens Magel ex de Lehaie has the local names May khoan – Rao pen. This is a species of many economic values. It was brought from China and introduced in our country from long ago. Today, this species is much planted and well adapted to many mountainous areas in Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen provinces. In recent years, the demand for bamboos as raw material for manufacturing of commodities for home consumption and export is very high and the requirement for expanding Phyllostachys pubescens planting is ever greater.
The area around Hoa Binh lake of Da river is undergoing a gradual change in ecological conditions in favour of Phyllostachys pubescens and the experimental introduction of the Cao Bang Phyllostachys pubescens in Hoa Binh prov. is necessitated for expanding the raw material area serving the manufacture of bamboo commodities in the province, protection of the landscape and improvement of the local ethnic pepople’s life.
II. Research methodology and material
1. Research methodology
General study and comparison of physical conditions of the distribution range of Phyllostachys pubescens (Nguyen Binh, Cao Bang prov.) and the area around Hoa Binh Lake. Collecting and reviewing research results of some researchers at home and overseas countries on Phyllostachys pubescens. Application of silvicultural research procedures, experimental research method of agroforestry models. Analysis and evaluation of research results based on the relation between biological characteristics of the species and the environmental conditions.
