I. Introduction


The State of Vietnam has great respect for the national cultural relics. Right in the early days of the foundation of the Demonatic Republic of Vietnam, President Ho did sign the decree 65 dated 18/11/1945 “Prohibition of destruction of Communal houses churches and temples”. The 1992 Constitution has the Article 34: “The State and the society conserve, develop national, cultural relics; pay attention to the work of conservation, tending, upgradation, protection and promotion of the influence of historical revolutionary, cultural relics, works of art and famous landscapes. The law on protection and use of historical, cultural relics and famous landscapes issued on 31/3/1984 states: “Protection and effective use of historical cultural relics and famous landscapes aimed at promoting the tradition of the Vietnamese people in nation founding. Almost all historical and cultural relics, especially ancient ones are located in large area, closely linked with natural or man- made landscape environment. The greenery promotes the beauty of architectural works at the same time creates a spiritual impression, a sense of mystery, serenity and relax for the people whenever they come to join the Festival ceremonies and enjoy the landscape beauty. The locations of the historical and cultural relics areas are also where remain the traditional landscape tree species of the religious and worship color representing national character and cultural heritage (green heritage). This traditional greenery is diversified in species and abundant in numbers.


With a view to contributing to the conservation and promotion of natural cultural heritages, nature reserve, environment protection, upgrading the landscape of the areas of historical, cultural relics, famous landscapes, Urban environment the Centre for forest science and Techniques application – FSIV has carried out the research subject “compilation of lists of tree and plant species in a number of main historical and religious relics areas in North Vietnam and recommendations on their upgradation”.
