I. Introduction
There are in Vietnam about 27 termite species that destroy wood. The genus Coptotermes is the most destructive genus and comprises up to 97% of the destructive species. It causes serious damages to the buildings and store houses. The technique of killing termites by infestation method is very specific and effective but TM 67, DM 90 of chemical origin must still be used. The replacement of termite- control preparation and plant insecticides in general of chemical origin by microbial product is the wish in forest and agricultural production and at the same time a trend in the world. Prompted by the above fact, the Forest Products Preservation Research Division was assigned a research subject: “Preliminary testing of Metarhizium in the control of Coptotermes formosana” aimed at:
– Selecting Metarhizium strains collected in home and overseas countries and isolated from dead termites in natural epidemic.
– Testing termite – killing efficiency by infestation method to select effective strains.
– Trial production of Metarhizium products from selected strains for control of Coptotermes formosana by infestation method.
