INTRODUCTION

The yearly requirement for Styrax tonkinensis seeds is very high. In order to meet this requirement, on one hand, seed stands must be established, which can meet requirements in productivity and stable yield so that seed collection can be implemented concentratedly in one area and suitable collecting techniques can also be applied. On the other hand, suitable storing techniques must be used to maintain germination ability for long periods to preserve seeds for other years (not seed years).

RESEARCH CONTENT AND METHODS

The research subject concentrated on the following investigations:

* Tools and techniques for seed collection to ensure that the mother trees will not be hurt.(damaged)

* Time for seed collection and standards which determine ripening degrees of fruits to ensure quality of seeds.

* Seed storing techniques for long periods.

* Techniques for establishment of seed stands.
