The objective of this research is to identify the suitable planting area for Acacia mangium with the purpose of supplying big-sized timber in the North central region of Vietnam.

Groups of factors have been considered in order to determine planting conditions for A. mangium including the climate, soil, and topography that is suitable for the ecological characteristics of species. Although the research result shows that A. mangium can be planted  for large timber supply in 6 provinces of the North central region of Vietnam, the largest suitable planting area is located in the adjoining region of three provinces (Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang and Yen Bai provinces).

In entire the North central region of Vietnam, the most suitable planting area for A. mangium accounts for 550,804ha (17.2%), in which there are 161,012ha (5.0%) in Tuyen Quang, 114,557ha (3.4%) in Yen Bai, 113,105ha (3.4%) in Ha Giang, 63,947ha (1.8%) in Lao Cai, 59,072ha (1.8%) in Vinh Phuc, and 39,111ha (1.2%) in Phu Tho province.

The less suitable planting area for A. mangium is 1,224,696ha (38.2%), of which there are 321,168ha (3.4%) in Yen Bai, 295,609ha (9.2%) in Lao Cai, 240,835ha (7.5%) in Tuyen Quang, 157,509ha (4.9%) in Ha Giang, 148,012ha (4.6%) in Phu Tho, 61,563ha (1.9%) in Vinh Phuc province.

And the least suitable planting area for A. mangium is 1,430,811ha (44.6%), in which, there are 562,255ha (16.4%) in Ha Giang, 278,514ha (8.7%) in Lao Cai, 254,723ha (7.9%) in Yen Bai, 186,620ha (5.8%) in Tuyen Quang, 167,006ha (5.2%) in Phu Tho, and 17,693ha (0.6%) in Vinh Phuc province.
