With the aim of producing high-quality seedlings of eucalypt and pine species biofertilizer, including soil live-in microorganisms, has been produced and applied to seedlings in the nursery.
In forest production phosphate fertilizer is usually applied to soil in order to improve the productivity of trees. However, after a while the soluble phosphate fertilizer tends to become insoluble which leads to a difficulty in the plants’ absorbability. Using soil live-in microorganisms which can dissolve insoluble phosphate into soluble phosphate is useful for the economy, ecology and environment.
The bio-fertilizer MF1 is produced in mixed tablets with various dimensions by the Forest Protection Research Division, Forest Science Institute of Vietnam. The key component of MF1 comprises a selected high bioactive phosphate dissolving microorganisms, mycorhizas and antifungal microorganisms causing leaf and root diseases and organic substance and agglutinate substance. Experiments using MF1 for producing seedlings of Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Eucalyptus urophylla, Pinus massoniana and Pinus merkusii were implemented in 4 treatments: apply 1.7gram/seedling, 3.5 gram/seedling, 5.2 gram/seedling and a control treatment, with 3 replicates and 40 tree seedlings per treatment. After 4 months of doing the experiment, growth performance, symbiotic association and disease incidence of applying MF1 treatments were significantly different compared to that of control treatment. Average height growth of E. camaldulensis, E urophylla, Pinus massoniana and Pinus merkusii seedlings in the MF1 treatments is higher by 1.25, 1.61, 1.51 and 1.15 times respectively compared to the control treatment. Average dry weight of these tree species in applying MF1 treatments is also higher by 3.45, 5.73, 1.77 and 1.74 times respectively compared to control treatment. The symbiotic association rate between mycorhizal fungi in the MF1 with roots of the seedlings reaches more than 80% but nil in the control treatment. Average disease incidence in the applying MF1 treatments and in control treatment of the E. camaldulensis, E urophylla, Pinus massoniana and Pinus merkusii seedlings is 5.56% and 36.67%, 4.17 and 39.17%, 4.44% and 38.3%, 4.72% and 35.0% respectively.
The most suitable dose for applying MF1 to seedlings in the nursery is 1.7 grams per seedling based on some norms including height growth, biomass, disease incidence and symbiosis rate.
