I. Introduction
In 1996, the Department for Science, Technology and Products Quality of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) raised the problem of research on Cinnamomum cassia planting for the leaves of this species based on the information of changing C. cassia management from harvesting the bark to harvesting the leaves. The Forest Science Institute of Vietnam carried out the examination of the research plan and saw that this is an entirely new field of management with C. cassia in our country and demanded full information collection and suitable research objectives and content worked out and allowed the implementation of the research subject with main content as follows:
1. Investigation the possibility of C. cassia planting for high essential oil productivity from the leaves.
2. The objective is to obtain high essential oil content of the leaves.
3. Initially developing technique for propagation of C. cassia by cuttings.
4. Organizing study tour to the China for C. cassia planting for the leaves.
