Summary

Based on the results of experiment and demonstration plots of the project, gained experiences are summarized as follows. Natural regeneration is a cost effective and ecological appropriate way to reestablish forest on degraded forest land and to restore degraded natural forest. Enrichment planting is a very difficult technical option that requires further research concerning species selection, light conditions, and further silvicultural treatment of enriched stands. Labour intensity and high requirement concerning protection make this option not very suitable in a community forestry context.

The following 10 technical fact sheets are provided. 1)Management of pure bamboo stands; 2)Natural regeneration for re-establishment of forest on bare land; 3)Natural regeneration for re-establishement of protection forest on bare land; 4)Regulated management of natural forest (IIa, IIb) by means of coppice with standards; 5)Gradual transformation of young restored forest into high forest management systems; 6)Management of mixed pine/broadleaf tree stands; 7)Management of teak plantations; 8)Shellac production; 9)Apiculture; 10)Fungus cultivation (black mushroom).
