I. INTRODUCTION
Planting materials are one of the most important factors in forestry production. In recent years forest tree improvement in our country has been given attention . Some results from research on species and provenance trials as well as breeding have been, , put into practice step by step. However, forest tree breeding work , in general, still has many limitations.
The subject en titled ” Research on formulation of scientific and technological basis for supplying improved planting materials of forest trees” is aimed at improving material quality for the main planting tree species and progressively increasing plantation productivity in our country.
Main contents of the research were:
– Species and provenance trials
– Plus tree selection
– Progeny test
– Establishment of seed production areas and seed orchards
– Tissue culture
– Cutting propagation.
All scientists and technicians of the Research Centre for Forest Tree Improvement have collaborated with scientists and managers within and outside the Institute in this research. The leader was mainly responsible for coordinating and integrating the results obtained into a common system.
