INTRODUCTION

Camellia oleosaRehd. belonging to the family Theaceae, is one of the 10 major, oil supplying species which are involved in planting and exploitation research in the world and in Vietnam. Main product of Camellia oleosa is oil extracted from seeds, which is used as animal fat by people and can be used as raw material for some industry branches such as soap, pharmaceutical production.

To increase production and yield of Camellia oleosa seed and oil, beside widening the planting area, establishing a complete technical system for planting and tending, breeding and propagation become a very important and imperative problem.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Surveys of fruit and seed yield, and plus tree selection were done in even-aged (18-20 year old) Camellia oleosa plantations established in Cao Loc district, Lang Son province. Main collected data are fruit size, number of fruits per tree, weight of 10 fruits. Data were analysed by statistical methods. Oil content of Camellia oleosa seeds was determined by Soklet extraction method in Plant Physiology – Biochemistry Division, Biology Institute, Scientific Institute of Vietnam.
