Dr. Phi Hong Hai<br \/>\nInstitution: Vietnamese Academy of Forest Sciences<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"center\">SUMMARY OF NEW CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE DISSERTATION<br \/>\n1. Selection<br \/>\nComplete evaluation of growth variation, oil content and quality of some Melaleuca quinquenervia provenances and clones were shown\u00a0 that the variations of growth,\u00a0 oil content and quality were obvious. The provenances of West Malam PNG (Q15), Wasua Road PNG (Q16), Casino NSW (Q23) and Gympie Qld (Q4) and the clones such as Q4.40 Q4.45, Q15.013, Q15.32 and Q15.38 were well selected. They had the higher oil content than 1.4% and their 1.8-cineole oil was\u00a0 higher than 65%.<br \/>\n2. Propagation by tissue culture<br \/>\nThe best result of tissue-culture propagation for Melaleuca quinquenervia was sterilizing half-woody shoots by 0.1% HgCl2 twice, the first for four minutes and the second for two minutes. Next,\u00a0 the first regeneration shoot in the MS* medium in which had nitrogen concentration was half of MS, and was supplemented with 0.5mg\/l BAP + 0.2 mg\/l kinetin + 30 g\/l sucrose; the second shoot regeneration in MS* medium was supplemented\u00a0 with 0.5 mg\u00ac\/l BAP + 0.2\u00a0 mg\u00ac\/l kinetin + 30 g\/l glucose (or 20g\/l\u00a0 glucose + 10 g\/l sucrose);\u00a0 the multiplication shoot in MS* medium was supplemented with 0.2 \u2013 0.5 mg\/l BAP + mg\/l K + 0.1 mg\/lNAA; the rooting shoot in MS* medium was supplemented with 0.3 &#8211; 0.5 mg\/l NAA + 30 g\/l sucrose (or 20 g\/l\u00a0 glucose + 10 g\/l sucrose). The plantlet was successfully acclimatized in scatterring light for two weeks and planted in soil containers at the nursery. As the results, the contaminated portion of sterilized explants was only 3% and that of clean sprouted explants was from 70 to 83.3%; the rate of shoot regeneration was from 93.3 to 100% and each explants had 3.5 to 4\u00a0 shoots in average; the rate of rooting was higher than 90% and the roots were looked fine. Nursery plantlets have survvied from 86.7 to 91.1%.<br \/>\n3. Impact of fertilizer, stump-cutting height and seasonality<br \/>\nThe experiment formula of 100g NPK + 200g microbiological organic fertilizer + 50 gram powdered lime per tree was the best for West Malam PNG provenance (oil content per tree was 2.7 times higher than that of control formula); the on supplemental fertilizing Melaleuca quinquenervia for a year has shown that the formula of 200g NPK+ 200g microbiological organic fertilizer + 50g powdered lime per tree was the best for Casino NSW provenance ( oil content per tree was five times higher than control formula) and the formula of 100g NPK + 50g powdered lime per tree\u00a0 was the best for Wasua Road PNG provenance (oil content per tree was 2.7 times higher than that of control formula).<br \/>\nSecondly, the 4-year trees were cut in other stump &#8211; height and then the shoots were emerged from the stump for one year.\u00a0 The shoot numbers and leaf mass per stump (leaf fresh weight) were counted and measured. The result has showed that stump cutting height was 5cm for West Malam PNG, 1.5cm for Casino NSW and Wasua Road PNG.
