The species display good growth, good stem form and have been widely planted in tropical and sub-tropical countries. In Vietnam, <em>P. cariabaea<\/em> perform well species and provenance trials in the north, central, south-east and central highland. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: 10pt\">The objective of the project was to evaluate performance of the species at pilot planting scale using best performing provenances and selected plus trees. In the period 2001-2005, the project successfully established 6 ha pilot plantations of <em>P. caribaea<\/em> in Vinh Phuc, Quang Binh and Lam Dong provinces.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: 10pt\"><span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: 10pt\">Preliminary evaluation showed that provenances Cardwell (T473, 19153) and Guanaja performed better than those commercial seedlots from Ha Tay, Vinh Phuc and Quang Tri. The best timing for cutting propagation of <em>P. cariabeae<\/em> were from November to April in the following year with rooting percentage ranged from 65 to 78%. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: 10pt\">The results suggest that selected provenances and families of <em>P. caribaea<\/em> can be vegetatively propagated to provide cuttings for commercial plantations. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\">\n<em><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: 10pt\">Pinus caribaea<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: 10pt\"> Morelet is naturally distributed in Central America.
