On 09 August 2024, the Vietnamese Academy of Forest Sciences (VAFS), in collaboration with the PSFM Consultant Office, organised a National workshop on integrating an Improved Forest Management Standard into the Vietnamese Payments for Forest Environmental Services (PFES) Scheme. The workshop\u2019s objective is to present the findings of the pilot study on developing an improved forest management standard for the PFES scheme, which was implemented by the PSFM2 project consulting office, Training Centre and VAFS; and Introduce the Training Centre for Sustainable Forest Management and Forest Certification, in Dong Ha, Quang Tri with a focus on the training portfolio with relevance for PFES<\/p>\n
The workshop received over 40 participants from central and local agencies, such as the Department of Forestry, Forestry Protection Department, International Cooperation Department, VNFF (MARD), research institutes, and universities. The workshop also welcomed representatives from international organisations and NGOs (GIZ, KFW, WWF) and the Chief Advisor of the PSFM2 project, Dr. Sinan Hagenah.<\/p>\n
The workshop heard presentations on (i) PFES in Vietnam \u2013 Enhancing efficiency of forest development from this scheme; (ii) Report for assessing the actual application of SFM standards in PFES scheme \u2013 A Case study in Quang Tri; and (iii) Recommendations for integration of improved forest management standards for smallholders into the PFES scheme; and (iv) Introduce the Training Centre for Sustainable Forest Management and Forest Certification, in Dong Ha, Quang Tri with a focus on the training portfolio with relevance for PFES.<\/p>\n
The workshop gained valued comments from participants. They highly appreciated project achievements that brought significant meaning to the policymakers in sustainable forest management and development based on PFES.<\/p>\n
In the closing remarks, Prof. Dr Vo Dai Hai appreciated the cooperation and support of the BMEL in the effective operation of the PSFM2 project.
